I saw an after riot scene at Malad Kurar village today. 4 young boys reported missing 2 days ago where found dead in the forest area. The disorder was because the police did not act on the missing persons report. A few Kms away people oblivious of the situation enjoyed coffee in the C.C.D and doughnuts in the M.O.D.
In another incidence in a village not so far away a land allocation scandal has disrupted the life of the villagers due to police inaction, corruption, stupidity, ignorance and greed of a few villagers who have the support of a few politicians. All the political parties- NCP, Shiv Sena, Peasant and workers party, Congress are involved. People don't realise that because of the conflicts, they are losing the land, which would be sold to someone, lost to the people forever. In this small scale civil war situation ambulance and police vans found their way through cars and people there for a holiday on the beach.
Even the scene at Ramleela maidan reiterates the fact that the Government at present enjoys enormous power and believes an incidence of this scale along with string of corruption cases are still not sufficient to dislocate it from the throne.
A simple Lokpal Bill with power to investigate isn't enough. With might boggling wealth figures (Congress income for 2009-2010=497 Cr) and no accounts shown for how this money is generated, means that almost all not some of the politicians are corrupt. Treat the political parties as public companies and make them display Balance sheets and Income Statements. It’s a prevention strategy which would make Lokpal Bill a supporting cure.
